The Supreme Court gives Ranvir-Allahabadia a second chance
To the delight of "The Ranveer Show" fans, on March 3, 2025, the Supreme Court lifted the broadcasting ban on the YouTuber podcaster. The court imposed the ban on February 18 for its involvement in the "India's Got Latent" pornography controversy, but has now granted permission to rebroadcast with conditions. What happened here? What will change India in the internet content space?
Court decision – broadcasting again, but with further rules
On Monday, Justices Suryakant and Kotishwar Singh gave permission for Ranveer's YouTube broadcast. Main conditions:
1. He must provide a written undertaking that he will uphold "standards of decorum and ethics."
2. Nothing will be said in the ongoing trial.
reason? Ranveer's lawyers submitted the need for 280 employees and livelihood. But the court is watching carefully.
What was the root cause of the ban?
In early February, a YouTube show called "India's Got Latent" featured obscene jokes with Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani and others at a program hosted by Samiraina. There was public anger, FIRs and death threats. On February 10, Assam, Maharashtra and Rajasthan police charged him with obscenity. On February 18, the court granted protection, but prohibited further broadcasting. Now that has changed.
Intense litigation in court
On March 3, there was a heated negotiation in court. Ranveer’s lawyer, Dr. Abhinav Chandrachud said, "He will invite spiritual gurus and professionals and will not utter forbidden words. But Solicitor General Tushar Mehta countered that it was unbelievable: "This program was exaggerated and not worth watching even with the judges.
Justice Suryakant strongly condemned the Canadian-based co-accused (probably Samarain) – "These youths think they are higher than the courts themselves, but we will control them. The Assam Police was also ordered to specify a clear date. The court thus balanced the protection of livelihood with the obligation.
Widespread controversy – Internet content regulation
This is not just a matter of one YouTuber, but the awakening of the Indian digital sector. Justice Suryakant said, "We don't want control, but there should be no arbitrariness. Laughter should not embarrass families. He ordered the government to propose "limiting rules". These rules will change the way content creators work.
Who else is involved in the dispute?
Samirain: Deleted the program on demand.
Ashish Chanchlani – co-accused in the FIRs, presented a petition (WP(Crl.) 85/2025) in the Supreme Court.
Jaspreet Singh and Apurvamakhija – participants in the dispute.
Ranveer's resurgence – What will "The Ranveer Show" do now?
Known as "Beer Biceps", Ranveer presented health, spirituality and big-name guests. Now he promised to do a "clean" program. The future of 280 employees and YouTube income depend on it. But will he be able to regain trust from the "latent" stigma? How will the new rules affect content creators?
