Historic Grand Canyon Lodge Destroyed by Wildfire: What You Need to Know

The prestigious Grand Canyon Lodge, located on the Northern Rim, which has been a historic gem from 1928, Dragon Bravo has become ashes in the grip of fire. Here's the latest information about this destructive forest fire, its influence and visitors.

Grand Canyon Lodge burns in devastating Dragon Bravo Fire.

A Tragic Loss at Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon Lodge, which was the only housing located on the Northern Rim, was destroyed by the dragon Bravo fire from the spark of electric sparks started on July 4th, 2025. This fire, which has now spread in 5,000-7,800 acres, has also taken 50-80 structures including visitor center and employee accommodation. From a damaged waste water facility located nearby Chlorine gas leak has made fire fighting efforts complex, so that people have to get out.

Key Details

  • Fire conditions: Dragon Bravo fire is still uncontrolled, and white SEZ fire has scored more than 40,000 acres of area in Kaibab National Forest.
  • Clearance: About 500 visitors and employees were safely removed from July 11. Firefighters personnel were also called back due to dangerous circumstances.
  • Closer Dates: Northern Rim and Internal Valley Route (North Kaibab, South Kaibab, Phantom Ranch) has been closed for 2025 season.
  • Cultural impact: This lodge designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood was a beloved site. Tourists like Tim Allan, who came from Flagstaff, mourn their "leading-like" attraction.

Why it matters

Northern Rim, which attracts only 10% of the park's 4.9 million annual visitors, provides a quiet migration compared to the bustling southern rim. Due to the dangers of the lodge and the dangers of continuous fire, concerns have increased in the resistance to the forest fire. Arizona's representative Greg Stanton emphasized the need for more investment for the safety of these treasures.

What will happen next?

The fire partial air blocking is battling extreme conditions through the measures to extinguish fire at the ground level. National Park service is monitoring air quality due to smoke and giving priority to the security of the remaining structures.
