AT&T customers impacted by two major cyberattacks in 2024 could soon receive compensation. The telecom giant has agreed to a $177 million class-action settlement, offering payouts to millions of people affected by the breaches.
While AT&T denies any wrongdoing, the company says it chose to settle to avoid a lengthy legal fight.
What Happened in the AT&T Data Breaches
March 2024 Breach (AT&T 1)
In March 2024, hackers stole and leaked sensitive customer data, including:
- Full names
- Addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Account passcodes
This information later appeared for sale on the dark web. To address this, a $149 million settlement fund has been set aside.
July 2024 Breach (AT&T 2)
In July 2024, AT&T reported another cyberattack. This time, hackers accessed call and text logs stored in a Snowflake-hosted database, affecting nearly every AT&T customer.
- Settlement fund: $28 million
Combined, these incidents may have impacted between 109 million and 182 million people, though some customers were affected by both.
How Much Money Can You Get
Maximum Payouts With Proof
If you can show documented financial losses tied to the breaches, you could receive:
- Up to $5,000 from the March 2024 breach fund.
- Up to $2,500 from the July 2024 breach fund.
Without Proof of Loss
Even if you don’t have receipts or records, you can still file a claim. You’ll receive a pro rata share of the settlement funds — likely smaller, but still worth claiming.
