A Palm Beach County man with a long history of arrests will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of murdering his friend during a 2022 shooting.
A Violent Night in North Palm Beach County
The case dates back to February 2022, when Nicholas Ducezil opened fire outside a townhouse community in northern Palm Beach County. Prosecutors said the shooting left one man dead and another injured, shattering what should have been an ordinary night.
Jury’s Decision and Convictions
After a full trial, a jury found Ducezil guilty of first-degree murder with a firearm and attempted second-degree murder with a firearm. Jurors heard testimony about the events leading up to the shooting, as well as Ducezil’s history of run-ins with law enforcement, before ultimately convicting him earlier this summer.
Sentencing Hearing
On August 14, 2025, Ducezil stood before a judge for sentencing. He received the mandatory punishment of life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder conviction.
Prosecution’s Role
Assistant State Attorneys Courtney Behar and Daniel Gross led the prosecution, presenting a case that highlighted both the violence of the shooting and Ducezil’s repeated disregard for the law.
A Troubled Past Ends in a Permanent Sentence
Court records show that Ducezil had been arrested numerous times over the years, mostly on gun-related charges. This pattern of arrests eventually culminated in the deadly shooting that cost his friend his life.
With the verdict and sentencing now complete, Ducezil’s case marks yet another example of how repeated criminal behavior can escalate into devastating violence — and how the justice system responds when it does.
