Madrid Respond After Early Shock
Mallorca stunned the home crowd in the 18th minute when Vedat Muriqi found the net against the run of play. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s side responded quickly and decisively.
Arda Güler equalized in the 37th minute, converting from Dean Huijsen’s clever knockdown. Just a minute later, Vinícius Júnior slotted home with a precise low left-foot finish, sealing Madrid’s turnaround before halftime.
Kylian Mbappé saw two goals ruled out for offside, while Güler had another disallowed for handball. Despite those setbacks, Real Madrid controlled the tempo and held on to their slim advantage until the final whistle.
Atletico Held at Alavés
Across Spain, Atletico Madrid’s early-season frustrations grew after a 1-1 draw away to Alavés. Giuliano Simeone struck first in the seventh minute, but Carlos Vicente quickly equalized from the penalty spot.
The game was paused for 15 minutes in the second half due to a medical emergency in the stands. The result leaves Diego Simeone’s men already seven points adrift of Real Madrid after just three league fixtures.
