“I Started Crying Midway Through the Script – Christy Martin’s Story Broke My Heart”
Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney has revealed just how desperate she was to play boxer Christy Martin in the upcoming biopic Christy.
In a fresh interview with Variety, Sydney said,
“My agent told me there’s a script going around about Christy Martin – why don’t you read it? I was halfway through the script and I started crying. I couldn’t believe I knew nothing about this incredible woman. The moment I finished the script, I jumped on Zoom with director David Michôd and literally begged him – please let me do this project. I told him, ‘I’ll do anything for you. I’ll completely lose myself in it.’”
Posed with Real-Life Christy Martin on the Red Carpet – Fans Are Saying “Oscar Loaded”
At the film’s premiere event, Sydney stunned in a pink lace gown while posing alongside the real Christy Martin. In the background was the movie poster that read “Based on a True Black Bear.” The photo of the two together has gone viral on social media.
Christy Martin brought women’s boxing into the mainstream in the ’90s and dominated the ring while surviving domestic violence. Sydney trained in boxing for four months straight for the role and even gained 10 kilos (22 lbs) to transform physically.
The release date hasn’t been announced yet, but trade analysts are already calling it the most powerful performance of Sydney’s career. While a few trolls are active on social media, the majority of fans are screaming: “This is Oscar-loaded performance!”
Will Sydney Sweeney enter the Oscar race and give Margot Robbie and Emma Stone a run for their money?
Now we just have to wait for the trailer and the release!
Sydney Sweeney says she “begged” the director of “Christy” to let her take the role: "I was like, 'I will do anything for you. I will lose myself.'"
