Bang & Olufsen Unveils the Finale of the Atelier Centenary Series: Monarch and Zenith Editions

The Peak of 100 Years: Bang & Olufsen’s Masterpiece Finale.

In a final, dramatic celebration of its 100th anniversary, Bang & Olufsen has expanded its ultra-exclusive Atelier series with the reveal of the Beolab 90 Monarch and Zenith Editions. These two masterpieces serve as the closing chapter of a five-part centenary collection, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in acoustic furniture. Limited to just 10 pairs per edition, these speakers are less like consumer electronics and more like high-fidelity sculptures intended for the world’s most discerning collectors.

Zenith Edition: A "Symphony of Pearls" and Precision Metalwork.

The Zenith Edition is arguably the most complex design B&O has ever attempted. It transforms the iconic silhouette of the Beolab 90 into a shimmering, tactile landscape.

  • Materials: Each speaker features six triangular panels encasing a total of 289 anodized aluminum spheres across seven different finishes (nearly 1,800 spheres per pair).
  • Details: The design is accented with mother-of-pearl inlays on the top ring and a pearl-blasted aluminum fascia in a dark grey "oyster shell" finish.
  • Visual Effect: Semi-transparent fabrics allow a subtle glimpse of the 18 drivers working within, blending the raw industrial power with high-fashion aesthetics.

Monarch Edition: A Modern Homage to Midcentury Danish Design.

While the Zenith looks to the future, the Monarch Edition draws inspiration from the warm, organic textures of Bang & Olufsen’s heritage. It is a masterclass in woodworking and metal anodization.

  • Sculptural Wood: Features hand-carved angled rosewood lamellas that wrap 360 degrees around the cabinet, following its complex geometric twists.
  • Metallic Palette: The aluminum components are finished in a warm, ochre-colored anodization to complement the deep, rich grain of the Rosewood Palisander.
  • Solidity: By increasing the size of the lamellas, designers have given the speaker a massive, furniture-like presence that nods to classic Danish cabinet-making traditions.
  • Acoustic Dominance: The Beolab 90 Foundation. Beneath the exotic materials lies the world’s most advanced loudspeaker platform. These limited editions retain the "borderline ridiculous" performance specs of the standard Beolab 90:
  • Power: 18 bespoke Scan-Speak drivers delivering a combined 8,200 watts per speaker.
  • Intelligence: Active Room Compensation and Beam Width Control allow the speaker to digitally "steer" sound to a specific sweet spot or fill a room 360 degrees.
  • Exclusivity: Each pair comes with a certificate of authenticity and a miniature aluminum sculpture of the speaker in its corresponding finish, delivered in a custom-engineered aluminum flight case.

Investment and Availability: The Price of Absolute Rarity.

With the standard Beolab 90 starting at approximately €167,200, these Atelier Centenary editions are expected to command a significant premium, likely exceeding $200,000 per pair. Given the strict limit of 10 units worldwide, these editions represent the pinnacle of the "Veblen good" in the audio world—where rarity and craftsmanship define value as much as the sound itself.
