Major changes coming to the sky! Delta drops snacks on short-haul flights.

As of May 19, 2026, Delta Air Lines is officially eliminating complimentary snacks and beverages on all flights shorter than 350 miles. This new rule shifts Delta from a three-tiered distance system to a simplified two-tiered model, meaning that quick hops across the country will now be entirely "zero-service" for most passengers.

Who is affected by the new 350-mile rule? Here is the cabin breakdown.

If you are flying on a short-haul route, here is what you need to know before you board:

  • Main Cabin & Delta Comfort+: If your flight is between 0 and 349 miles, you will no longer receive in-flight food or drink service. You will need to grab your coffee, water, or snacks at the terminal before boarding!

  • Delta First (First Class): Passengers seated in First Class are completely exempt from this restriction. They will still receive their standard full premium service, regardless of how short the flight distance is.

The "why" behind the policy change, plus a surprising upgrade for others!

While it might be a bummer to lose your Biscoff cookies on a quick flight, Delta has stated the overhaul is meant to create a more "consistent experience" across their network rather than strictly acting as a cost-cutting measure.

There is a silver lining for travelers on slightly longer routes: because the threshold for full service is now strictly set at 350 miles, about 600 daily flights that previously only received Delta's limited "Express Beverage Service" (just water, coffee, and tea) are now being upgraded to a full snack and beverage service.

Popular quick-hop routes losing their snack service.

This overhaul impacts roughly 450 daily Delta flights. Some of the busiest short-haul corridors falling under the 349-mile "zero-service" limit include:

  • New York (JFK) to Boston (BOS)187 miles

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Charlotte (CLT)226 miles

  • Los Angeles (LAX) to San Francisco (SFO)337 miles

It is definitely a good idea to pack an empty water bottle for the hydration station and grab your favorite snacks at the airport before heading to your gate if you're taking a quick regional flight with Delta anytime soon!
