Violence Against First Responders on the Rise

This ambush attack is the latest in a disturbing trend of violence to target emergency respondents in the United States:

  • A patient of an ambulance driver in Missouri killed a knife.
  • In 2012, four firefighters were killed in a similar attack in New York Webster, after which new guns were created later.

Tulsa Fire Chief Michael Baker said, "Violence against the reactions is increasing. These incidents are becoming more dangerous."

National Context: Rising Gun Violence in 2025

According to Gun Violence Archives, the tragedy in Idaho has joined the frightening number of collective firing incidents in 2025, where the incidents of 190 collective firing have been recorded.

  • A few weeks ago, Minnesota was killed in the state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband's house.
  • State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also injured in this incident.
  • In May, two Israeli embassy employees were shot dead outside the Jewish Museum in Washington DC.
  • Two people were killed and nine were injured in firing on Memorial Day in Philadelphia.

Federal Response and Investigation

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firemen and Explosive Bureau (ATF) has deployed agents and fire fighting investigators from their Spoken, Portland and Seattle offices to assist in investigation.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins expressed a statement on social media after talking to the Governor Brad Little of Idaho:

"We are praying for victims and their families and we will provide updates when there are more information available."

The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has also confirmed that their two members have been killed, which they called "heinous act of violence".

What's Next?

Officials are expected to provide more information about the efforts to overcome the suspected person, its purpose and ongoing fire on the mountain by organizing a press conference.

Coeur d'Alene's community is in mourning, because the nation is struggling with another silly act of violence, in which those people have been targeted, who risk their lives to protect others.
