Hints About Her Departure
Although Gardner hasn’t released an official statement, she recently hinted at her decision during a chat with Craig Ferguson on his podcast Joy.
“I will say the only thing that I’ve started to feel a little bit is just sketch fatigue, or idea fatigue,” she explained. “At this point, after doing Groundlings and SNL for so long, I’m like, ‘I’ve written a lot of sketches.’”
Career Highlights on SNL
During her eight seasons, Gardner became known for her versatility. Some of her most memorable moments include:
-
Teen movie critic Bailey Gismert on Weekend Update
-
Breaking character in the viral Beavis and Butt-Head skit with Ryan Gosling
-
Playing Michael Jordan’s security guard
-
Impersonating Kim Kardashian
She appeared in more sketches than any other cast member during Season 49 and became the longest-tenured female performer by Season 50.
What Her Exit Means for SNL
Gardner’s departure marks the end of an era for the show. With multiple long-running players leaving, Season 51 is shaping up to be a transitional year as SNL introduces fresh talent and redefines its comedy lineup.
