According to a report of the news-gazette, the former chief singer Terry Luttrell of the prestigious rock band REO Speedwagon, was included in a serious car accident due to sleeping while driving. This incident took place on the interstate highway in the Champaign-Urbana of Illinois on Sunday morning, on June 15, 2025, when Lutter was going home after the emotional farewell concert of the band at the State Farm Center.

This concert was a historic reunion, in which the current and former members of REO Speedwagon were included, although in the absence of current major singer Kevin Cronin, which were not included in the cause of pre-commitments. Luterel, who led the band to the original singer Mike Blair, from 1968 to 1972, had spent the night with the fans, till 2 o'clock were given autographs. Tired, he went to bed at 4:30 in the morning and after a few hours a business engagement came out to visit St. Louis.
Luterel told News-Gazette, "I slept for a moment and the next thing I knew, that I was awake in the cocoon of the airbag." Due to the accident, his car was overturned and completely damaged. Despite the severity of the accident, Luterel managed to get out of the car itself. He said, "The airbag was opened and my sternum broke a little," he further told that he is also a light pain in the back and the neck. "It's painful, but I'll be fine."
A member of the REO Classics Band of Luttrell’s, keyboardist, was traveling behind him and saw the accident. Luterel was immediately taken to Karley Foundation Hospital in the Arbana of Illinois, where he is now recovering. Doctors have said that despite their injuries being painful, there are no danger to life and its hope is completely cured.
In the early years of REO Speedwagon, Luttrell’s contribution played an important role in shaping the band's special sound, in which his first album included hits like "Sophisticated Lady" and "157 Riverside Avenue". Fans have resorted social media to express their support, in which many people have wished to be healthy early 78-year-old composer.
This accident reminds the dangers of driving in sleep. Officers are investigating the event, and there is no information to join any other vehicle. Luterel expressed gratitude for the support of his fans and bandmates, "I am happy to come here and waiting for coming back to my feet."
