Cracker Barrel has unveiled the marketing firms behind its controversial rebrand, a move designed to modernize the chain but one that has divided fans.
Who’s behind the makeover?
The March 2025 press release named three agencies:
- Viral Nation – leading digital and social media campaigns.
- Prophet – responsible for restaurant redesign and brand strategy.
- Blue Engine – handling public relations and communications.
Viral Nation’s role in the strategy
Viral Nation is tasked with building end-to-end social media campaigns to connect with younger, socially native audiences. The agency has previously worked with Bud Light and produced a Pride marketing guide on avoiding “corporate rainbow washing.”
Prophet’s redesign vision
Prophet is spearheading the restaurant redesigns and overall brand marketing campaign. The firm emphasized preserving Cracker Barrel’s heritage while introducing a modern vision to grow market share.
Consumer backlash over the logo
Fans reacted strongly after Cracker Barrel dropped its longtime logo featuring an elderly man leaning on a barrel. Many described the new look as “drab” and “soulless,” saying it stripped away the Americana charm.
Cracker Barrel defends the changes
The company dismissed critics as a “vocal minority,” stressing that the refresh will help attract new diners while maintaining the hospitality and warmth that defined its past.
The rebranding rollout will include:
- Updated logos and visual elements
- Redesigned restaurant spaces
- Expanded food and retail offerings
- A stronger digital and social presence
