Amazon Web Services opened its annual re:Invent conference today with a packed keynote from Vice President Matt Garman that unveiled more than 25 new features and services focused on artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure.
Trainium3 Takes Center Stage
The star of the show was Trainium3, the next-generation AI training chip. It delivers 4.4 times the performance of the widely used Trainium2, uses far less power, and comes with much more memory. More than 10,000 companies are already running on Trainium2, and the new chip is poised to widen that gap.
The Rise of AI Agents
AWS made it clear that AI agents are the future. Several ready-to-deploy agents were launched: Kiro for coding, Quick for data analysis, Transform for migrating software, and Connect for automating call centers. New additions include Kiro Autonomous, a DevOps agent, and a dedicated security agent.
Nova Forge: Build Your Own Custom Model
A new tool called Nova Forge now lets companies take Anthropic’s Nova models and fine-tune them with their own private data, letting every customer create their own tailored “Novella” model.
25 Rapid-Fire Infrastructure Wins
In the final ten minutes, the team announced 25 new foundational cloud services in rapid succession. These updates may not sound flashy, but they fix real everyday problems and earned the biggest applause of the session.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy summed it up on X: “Today was just Day 1 — there’s a lot more still to come!”
The conference runs for two more days, and bigger announcements are still ahead. AWS has once again raised the bar in cloud and AI.
Really enjoyed Matt’s keynote at #AWSreInvent today. So much innovation happening in @awscloud, and you could see it with the array of launches he unveiled.
